Richard L. Thompson Archives Reading Group VI

God & Science: Divine Causation and the Laws of Nature

The Richard L. Thompson Archives Reading Group is planning a session on Thompson's God & Science: Divine Causation and the Laws of Nature (2004 on Zoom and in person at the BIHS library in Gainesville, Florida, 11 am – 12:30 pm EST on alternate Saturdays (see schedule below for tentative dates).

Series VI on God & Science will cover this collection of essays that examine the relationship between modern science and the Vaiṣṇava tradition of India. Although little known in the West, the Vaiṣṇava tradition is based on a monotheistic philosophy having much in common with Judeo-Christian thought. When brought into contact with modern science, Vaiṣṇavism generates some of the same questions that arise from the confrontation of science and Christianity. At the same time, there are significant differences. These essays contain a smorgasbord of novel insights that provide new perspectives on the relation between science and religion.
