Maya: The World as Virtual Reality
The Richard L. Thompson Archives Book Club Reading Group is planning a series on Thompson's Maya: The World As Virtual Reality beginning on Saturday, June 14, 2025 on Zoom and in person at the Bhaktivedanta Institute Library in Gainesville, Florida. Meetings will be held 11 am – 12:30 pm EDT on alternate Saturdays (see schedule below for tentative dates). Each session covers the book chapter by chapter with a presentation summarizing contents and central arguments, followed by a discussion.
Series V on Maya: The World as Virtual Reality examines the nature of conscious and how it can interact within a physically realistic virtual world. The book considers how many aspects of "paranormal" phenomena could be reconciled in a natural way within the laws of physics. It also sheds light on time paradoxes, conscious phenomena appearing autonomous to organic form, as well as cosmic and terrestrial evolution. Thompson provides a synthesis of contemporary ideas and modern scientific constructs to help illuminate ancient Vedic themes of consciousness embedded within a conditional world of illusion.
