Welcome from the director of the Bhaktivedanta Institute for Higher Studies
As the Director of the Bhaktivedanta Institute for Higher Studies, I extend the warmest welcome to sunny Gainesville either virtually or in person to our “Models and Memes and Maps: A Modern Journey through Ancient Cosmography.” This is a follow up to last November’s workshop: “Taking the 5th… Canto!”
In this workshop, we will continue developing a unified framework for intellectual discourse concerning 5th Canto Purāṇic cosmographical models, discuss existing models in the light of such framework, and present new research that may enhance the already rich tradition of scholarship surrounding this important topic. We strive to elevate the discourse to a level suitable for publication in appropriate academic circles so that the efforts of the many Vaishnavas can be appreciated by the intellectual communities while we remain loyal to our tradition.
The Zoom workshop will be hosted at the new center for the BIHS, in Gainesville, FL, the home of the University of Florida. The new BIHS headquarters, former home of the president of the University of Florida, is situated near the University in an historically preserved neighborhood. We do hope you can visit our new home, be our guest and enjoy our 3000+ books library, gardens, and beautiful walking areas. BIHS has been able to secure use of this new facility with the generous support of Hridayananda Maharaja.
