Thompson wrote about this presentation: "The Santa Fe Institute, a think tank connected with the Los Alamos Laboratories, has been sponsoring semi-annual conferences on creating Artificial Life. These were attended with the aim of introducing some critiques of evolution and the materialistic understanding of life."
He noted that he presented on this topic "at the second Artificial Life conference."
